My name is Mavis Plange and I’m a fully qualified adult and child (age 6+) ‘Integrative counsellor’ based at CBT & Counselling Bexley. I am a member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapist) and hold a ‘Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling’
I work in private practice and have also worked with the mental health charity ‘Mind’. I also have experience working in secondary schools and pupil referral units (PRU). This has enabled me to have a broad understanding of different cultures, genders and backgrounds.
Integrative therapy means I will draw upon different theoretical approaches during my work. Because I believe that everybody is unique. So, I will tailor the therapy to suit your individual needs. I consider myself warm, empathic and non-judgemental in order to help you open up.
Counselling for adults
My aim is to provide a warm, confidential and safe environment in which we can work together to explore your difficulties and help you make sense of things. I will assist you in gaining insight and a better understanding of yourself whilst providing you with the tools to enable you move forward more positively.
People seek counselling for variety of reasons and no problem is too big or too small. Perhaps you are lacking in confidence or have low self-esteem. Maybe you feel depressed or have relationship problems. I will work with you to help you get to where you want to get to and feel more in control of your life.
My work with children
My experience with children ranges from primary school age to young adult. Supporting them through any difficulties they may be facing; such as anxiety, bullying, self-harm, complex family situations or dealing with challenging emotions.
Perhaps your child is struggling with low mood or has behavioural difficulties. I will support them to build self-esteem and resilience as well as working with them to make sense of what is going on for them.
It’s of the upmost importance that your child feels ‘heard’ and understood in order to help them move forward more positively.
I work creatively and encourage interaction to improve wellbeing and adapt my approach to suit each individual child and the problem they are facing. This might be through play, creativity or by simply talking.
I subscribe to and work with the BACP ethical framework and undertake regular continued professional development (CPD) have clinical supervision on a monthly basis as well as having professional indemnity insurance.
