Victoria Greenwood – Adult Therapist

Folkestone Practice

Adult Counselling Folkestone

Hello my name is Victoria Greenwood or Vickie as you will get to know me and I am based at CBT and Counselling Folkestone. I hold a diploma in ‘Professional Counselling’ and practice ‘Integrative Therapy’. Which means I draw upon a wide range of modalities during my work. This might include ‘Psychodynamic’ and ‘Person -Centred ‘ approaches. Alongside the use of ‘Cognitive Behavioural Therapy’ (CBT) to help you move forward. The use of this wide range of approaches enables me to adapt my style to suit your individual needs.

The therapeutic relationship we develop is of the upmost importance. Therefore, I will endeavour to quickly build a rapport between us, so you feel safe enough to share what is going on for you. I will never judge you. But I will gently encourage you to share your experiences with me. Together, we will work through your problems so you are able to find clarity and structure in your life once more.

I specialise in mental health and neurodiversity; which is the range of differences in individual brain function and behavioural traits.  The experience of this, both professionally and personally has given me extensive knowledge in both areas. I have a particular interest in trauma and obesity and use a range of CBT techniques to deliver this therapy. My experience also covers a wide range of issues, such as anxiety, depression, stress, PTSD, relationship/family problems, addiction and so on.

My experience

I have worked with people in a social care setting for over 20 years and have experience of working in prisons and the housing and homelessness sectors. This has enabled me to gain experience of both addiction and mental health. I have delivered training programmes to criminal offenders which helped break the cycle of crime and addiction. My work has also spanned the care sector where I experienced the challenges people with disabilities face along with the impact on their families.

My move into private practice was driven by my desire to use the experience I have gained to help people achieve their dreams and aspirations through self-awareness and growth. I am spiritual and believe there is a path for everybody in life. Mine is to help people take the route which is right for them.

Ethical Standards

I am an accredited member of the National Counselling Society (NCS) and a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).  Therefore, I subscribe to and work within their ethical guidelines. I am supervised regularly to ensure I am practicing to high standards. I undertake regular additional training to enhance my skills and knowledge.

If you wish to consider medication, or are seeking a medical diagnosis or a medical report. Then an appointment with your GP or a Consultant Psychiatrist would be more appropriate

Shauna Flynn – Adult Therapist

Folkestone Practice

Adult CBT and Counselling Folkestone

Hello my name is Shauna. Firstly, thank you for clicking on my profile. I am a fully qualified ‘Integrative Therapist’ at CBT and Counselling Kent’s Folkestone practice. I hold a Level 4 Diploma in ‘Professional Counselling’ which is accredited by the ‘National Counselling Society’ (NCS) and I’m a registered member of the BACP.

Using the ‘integrative’ approach during my work means I can adapt my style to suit your individual needs. I may draw upon ‘Person Centred’ theory the ‘Psychodynamic’ approach, ‘Transactional Analysis’ and/or ‘Attachment’.

I also use ‘Cognitive Behavioural Therapy’ (CBT) which helps deal with problems in a more focused way. CBT breaks down problems into smaller parts and helps you change any negative thinking patterns which effect how we feel and consequently how we behave. CBT tends to focus more on the present and helping you move forward, rather than dwelling on the past for too long.

This variety of counselling techniques respects the unique individuality of each person.

I appreciate that it might feel quite daunting taking the first step into therapy. However, I will try and make it as easy as possible for you. I provide a warm, non-judgemental, confidential space where you will feel really heard so you are able to achieve the best possible version of yourself.

At the start of your therapy I will ask you what is troubling you and what you would like to change. I will also ask you if you have set a goal for yourself. If you don’t know at this point, that is absolutely fine, we can talk through that together in order for you to find some clarity. Knowing what you hope to achieve, or where you would like to get to through having therapy, gives you something to work towards and we can measure progress.

My background

Prior to opening my own private therapy practice, I worked within social care settings, residential homes and independent living. Alongside working with adults with both physical disabilities and learning disabilities. I also have a degree in Midwifery and held placements within hospital settings. All of this experience has enabled me to hone my communication skills which is very important when building a trusting therapeutic relationship.

I have experience working with childhood/adult trauma. Anxiety, depression, bereavement, substance misuse and family/relationship breakdowns. I also work with gender dysphoria, body dysmorphia, neurological and developmental disorders and distorted eating disorder.
