CBT and Counselling for adults

My core training is in the Person-Centred, Humanistic Approach. Which takes the view, that given the right support, everyone can reach their full potential. As a person-centred therapist, I will value and accept you, just as you are. I will also endeavour to step into your world, in order to try and see things from your perspective. The person-centred approach benefits individuals in many ways, such as increasing self-awareness, improving self-esteem, self-acceptance and a sense of empowerment.

I will support you to tell your story and help you explore your day to day experiences so you find a more positive way forward

I provide the time and space for you to be able to on YOU with no interruptions. You will be able to talk about anything and everything, without judgement. Together, we will find a way for you to find a greater understanding of yourself and your behaviours, where certain behaviours may originate from and provide you with coping mechanisms for the future.

I’m experienced in problems such as depression, anxiety, low self-esteem and gender issues. Also problems with relationships, post-natal depression, the menopause, bereavement, abuse, family relationships/issues, body-image and trauma.  Self-esteem, attachment, self-harm, LGBTQ+, depression, anxiety and relationships

Counselling for young people

I work with children and young people from the age of 8. I inititally qualified as a teacher in 2003 and have worked with students from year 1  to Year 13. I’m  experienced in working with young people with every type of problem.

My experience has included work on issues such as: self-esteem, attachment, self-harm, depression, anxiety, relationships with others. Along with trauma, adjustment to social/foster care and adverse childhood experiences. I also have many years of experience, working with children and young people with an ASD or ADHD diagnosis.

I use a range of techniques which are tailored to each young person’ unique and individual needs. With younger children I might use a variety of techniques, such as drawing, story-boards, images, music and painting. Along with therapy cards, games, mindfulness and meditation.  These techniques help to create an open, relaxed and trusting environment, in which children can begin to explore and make sense of their feelings.

With older children, I offer a similar creative but more structured approach during therapy, depending on their age and specific needs. . Together, we learn about who they are, what helps them and what holds them back. I am there to listen and fully accept them, offering a non-judgemental space that’s just for them.

I am continually learning and participating in continuing professional development. Recent training includes: Suicide and self-harm, Working with narcissistic personality disorders. Supporting children through grief. Internal Family Systems model.Trauma and shame. Online and telephone counselling, safeguarding and prevention training.

How I can help

I genuinely care about and treat each person as an individual, so I will never impose a ‘one treatment fits all’ approach. You will be treated with the utmost respect, empathy and understanding. I will help you explore any issues, which might be affecting your health, relationships, work and quality of life.
