My name is Jacky Rudkins and I am a fully qualified and accredited ‘Integrative Counsellor’ based at CBT and Counselling Rochester (based in Cuxton). I am a registered member of the BACP (British association of Counsellors & Psychotherapists).
I hold a Diploma in Humanistic and Psychodynamic counselling, in addition to specialised training in law and sexual offences.
My expertise lies in providing counselling for both adults and children. I practice an ‘Integrative approach’ to therapy because I don’t believe that one type of therapy is suitable for everyone. This means that I draw upon a variety of theoretical approaches depending on your individual’s needs.
For adults I may incorporate the use of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) which will provide you with the relevant tools to help you move forward. For younger children this may mean the use of play therapy.
My experience comes from working in many different fields over the years. Such as IAPT (Improving access to psychological therapies) service. Which is an NHS evidence-based therapy to treat people with anxiety disorders and depression.
I have a wealth of experience working with problems such as anxiety, bereavement, stress, depression and low self-esteem. Along with providing help for the management of intrusive thoughts, domestic violence and sexual abuse.
I am also extensively trained in trauma therapy and have over 14 years’ experience working with survivors’ children and adults of both sexes. Trauma therapy is for those who have suffered sexual abuse/assault or rape, both recent and historically. I am also am knowledgeable around the law, court process and aftercare in this area.
By drawing upon my training, knowledge and experience I will work with you to better understand yourself, explore any unresolved difficulties. Helping you to move forwards in the way you choose to do so.
My child counselling is for chiildren from 5 years of age. I understand that children often require a different approach, which is usually age dependent. I will work towards building a trusting relationship with your child so they feel comfortable enough to open up to me.
For younger children I may use play therapy such as art, crafts, sand and puppets, so they are able to relax and find the experience as positive as possible.
For teenagers, I will help you explore your thoughts and feelings and support you in setting realistic goals about what you would like to change. I will gently challenge you to think about any behaviour that might be unhelpful to you so you are able to move forward more positively.
If you are happy for me to, I will give you a call prior to meeting with your child/young person. This will allow me to gain an understanding of your interpretation of your child’s difficulties ready for our session.
As a member of BACP I subscribe to their code of ethics. This includes undertaking continuous professional development and clinical Supervision.
I am enhanced DBS checked and hold professional indemnity insurance in order to be able to practice.
