Hello my name is Gill Syred and I’m a fully qualifed ‘Integrative Counsellor’ based at CBT and Counselling Gillingham. I have a BSC (hons) in Social Science and I hold a diploma in ‘Therapeutic Counselling’ and a ‘Diploma in Clinical Supervision’. Which means I supervise other therapists so they are able to do their job more competently.
I’m a registered member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling Psychotherapists). Working in an ‘integrative’ way means I use different theoretical concepts, depending on each person’s particular needs. That’s because I understand that everyone is unique and one size certainly doesn’t fit all. I am also trained in ‘Cognitive Behavioural Therapy’ (CBT) ‘Trauma therapy’ and ‘CATT therapy’ (Children’s Accelerated Trauma Technique). Along with being an experienced couple counsellor.
Alongside my own private work, I also specialise in sexual abuse/rape and domestic violence. I have worked with a leading charity for over a decade, providing therapy to survivors of sexual abuse past and present, rape and domestic violence. I have extensive experience working with all genders, with issues such as anxiety and/or depression, trauma, guilt or shame. Along with problems such as low self-esteem and self-harm
During my career I have also worked with other mental health charities, supporting individuals with severe depression. Or who may have been sectioned under the mental health act as well as informal patients.
I understand that life can be challenging at times and you might be finding it increasingly difficult to cope. Perhaps you would like someone to share your thoughts and feelings with – without a fear of being judged. Or maybe you feel your partner, friends or family just don’t listen or understand you anymore.
I will offer you a safe, support, non-judgemental place so you feel comfortable and relaxed enough to be able to explore your thoughts and feelings. This can sometimes be difficult to put into words or might feel overwhelming. However, through me listening to your story and showing empathy and support. I will help you make sense of things and find clarity through gaining a better understanding of yourself. Together, we will work through any ‘stuck’ feelings you may be experiencing, which will help you feel more in control of your life again. Therefore, you will feel able to move forward more positively.
I subscribe to and work within the BACP Ethical Framework as well as having regular professional development and clinical supervision.
