More from Julie-Anne

Hello, my name is Julie-Anne and I’m a fully qualified therapist with a toolbox full of techniques to help you. I hold a BA (Hons) in Integrative Counselling, which includes CBT techniques, and I have over 13 years’ experience working with individuals from a wide range of backgrounds.

I’m a registered member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP). My therapy room is based in the beautiful countryside of Chartham, just outside Canterbury, and is easily accessible by car or public transport. I offer both face-to-face and online counselling sessions, depending on what suits you best.

There are many reasons why people come to therapy. Some feel that things have never quite felt right and find themselves facing the same difficulties again and again. Others reach out after a loss or major life change that has left them feeling off track.

Whatever the reason, all are welcome — regardless of age, background, or sexual orientation. You’ll find me warm, engaging, and non-judgemental. I tailor therapy to your unique needs and I’m passionate about helping you find a way forward.

My Approach to Therapy

During our sessions, I wil help you  voice to your worries, fears, and frustrations so we can begin to explore what you want and need. You’ll be encouraged to reflect on where your struggles may have started, helping you build insight and deeper understanding.

We’ll work together to find the answers that feel right for you, helping you view things from new angles and take steps forward. My clients often tell me I have a calming presence, but I’ll also be honest and gently direct when needed, helping you feel supported while making meaningful changes.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

I frequently draw on the powerful tools of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to help individuals break free from unhelpful patterns. CBT works by identifying negative thought cycles, challenging limiting beliefs, and shifting how we view ourselves and the world around us.

By gently exploring these thinking patterns, I’ll support you in creating more balanced, constructive ways of understanding your experiences. Together, we’ll look at the beliefs that may be holding you back and begin replacing them with healthier alternatives.

Sometimes, past experiences can have more of an impact on us than we realise. Looking at how your earlier life may be influencing your present feelings and behaviours can bring relief and clarity.

We’ll work together to explore these connections, reduce emotional struggles, and help you develop greater resilience and self-awareness.

No matter how stuck or overwhelmed you feel, I believe in your ability to change. My role is to support you in building self-acceptance, nurturing personal growth, and helping you reconnect with your full potential.

Ethical Standards

I follow the professional code of ethics set out by the BACP. This means, I attend regular clinical supervision and take part in ongoing CPD to keep my skills and knowledge up to date. This helps me work to the highest possible professional standards.

Background / Experience

Like many counsellors, my journey into therapy began with my own personal experience of the benefits counselling can bring. This inspired me to train professionally so I could help others find the same sense of peace and clarity.

I started my career in a charitable organisation supporting individuals through life challenges, before moving into private practice. This allows me to offer both short-term and longer-term therapy, tailored to each client’s individual needs — either online or face to face.

Over the years, I’ve learned the importance of seeing each person as truly unique. I aim to offer a space where you feel heard and respected, with the freedom to express whatever you need to, without judgement.

How I Can Help You

From the moment you step into my counselling room – or meet me online – I aim to create a supportive, professional space where you feel safe, respected, and able to be yourself.
