Counselling Margate

My name is Alison Marsh and I’m a BACP accredited ‘Integrative Counsellor’ based at CBT & Counselling Margate. I provide therapy for both adults and children age 14+.

Being an integrative counsellor means that I bring together different elements of specific therapies to find the one that suits you. At CBT and Counselling Margate. I also incorporate Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) techniques which equip you with practical tools to help you move forward.

I take the view that there is no single approach that can treat each person in all situations. Therefore, I will tailor my work to suit each individual. I offer provide

Outside of my own private practice I also have experience working within the NHS, providing counselling for patients within the cardiac unit. Alongside this, I have also worked with teenagers within schools and the charity counselling service ‘Breast Cancer Care’ supporting breast cancer survivors. I currently teach level 2 counselling to trainee counsellors.

At times, life can be stressful. Pressure from family, work or relationships can leave us feeling lost, upset and/or confused – with nowhere to turn.

I do understand that making the initial contact to see a therapist can sometimes be the hardest part. However, rest assured, this will be the start of you making some positive changes in your life. Whether you goal is learning to understand yourself and your feelings a little better. Or perhaps finding ways of managing difficult situations more effectively, I will help you move forward in the way that you choose.

How I can help

At counselling Margate I provide support in helping you make sense of your problems. Because I am neutral, I will help you find answers in a way that friends and family may not be able to.

By gently encouraging you to explore and discuss your feelings and emotions, you will feel able to examine your choices and empowered to act upon any changes you decide to make.

The sessions are guided by you and we will move at your pace. I will listen and follow your story. Then, using my expertise, I will help you look at things from different perspectives. I will also help you be aware of any potentially unhelpful thinking habits or patterns of behaviour that may have developed over time. Then together, we will find new coping strategies to help you deal with your problems more positively.

I provide a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space for you to talk openly. Whether you feel overwhelmed by your circumstances, have historical or long-term problems. Or perhaps just generally discontented with life. I will help you discover a way forward.

I am experienced in working with problems such as trauma, anxiety and depression. Alongside stress management, work related problems, relationship issues or eating disorders.

My work with teenagers has given me the experience to support issues around social media, bullying, self-esteem, self-harm, exam stress and family problems.

Ethical Standards

I aim to provide an extremely high-quality professional service, I am an accredited member of the BACP, working within their ethical framework.  I am also on the National Counselling Society accredited register.

In addition to my Integrative Counselling Diploma I have a wide range of further training combining a person-centred approach with CBT, TA, Gestalt, and Creative Therapy. I use the blended approaches to meet your needs.
