Debra Osborne

Rochester & Dartford Practice

Adult Counselling Rochester and Dartford

My name is Debra Osborne and I’m an experienced Psychotherapist, Counsellor and Relationship Counsellor based at CBT & Counselling Rochester and Dartford practices. I offer counselling for adults on a long or short term basis.

Along with my own private work, I also have a number of years’ experience working in a variety of NHS mental health wards including both acute mental health and forensic. I’m a practicing therapist for ‘Harmony Trust’ providing therapy for those coping with cancer or other life changing illnesses.

I work closely with local hospitals, taking referrals and holding talks for cancer support groups. Some people hold great importance in being able to express their concerns to somebody they trust outside of their immediate family and friends. This is often due to a fear of adding to the family worries.

This broad spectrum of work has enabled me an in-depth understanding of how our mental health can have such a negative impact on our lives and how it can happen to any one of us. I have also learnt that the value of talking to someone unbiased, who doesn’t judge and will listen patiently cannot be underestimated.

How I can help

I like to think that I’m friendly, calm, warm and empathic by nature. I don’t believe life is about ‘surviving’ or ‘getting through’ it’s about meaning and purpose. Counselling is about having a safe place to go where you can explore your thoughts and feelings. The building is trust and rapport and trust between us is key to the counselling being successful. My aim is to help you find a greater understanding of yourself and any issues you face and to encourage you to find a more positive way forward in the way that you choose.

My ongoing professional development has enabled me experience of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Mindfulness for Anxiety and Depression which can be incorporated into our sessions I appropriate.

I subscribe to and work within the NCS code of ethics and the BACP ethical framework and undertake regular professional development and supervision as well as having professional indemnity insurance.

If you wish to consider medication, or are seeking a medical diagnosis or a medical report, then an appointment with your GP or a Consultant Psychiatrist would be more appropriate.

Help and support for any type of problem such as anxiety, depression, anger management, bereavement, relationship problems or stress.

I have gained a wealth of experience counselling across private, public and voluntary sectors. I consider myself to be warm, approachable and kind with an aim to provide a safe, confidential environment. I strongly believe, when therapy is of high quality, it will enable you to be much better placed to want to open up and talk through what is troubling you, and with my support, gain a better understanding of yourself. This understanding builds confidence, leading you to be more able to identify your own solutions to the problems you face. This feeling of empowerment will enable you to move past any distressing thoughts or difficult feelings allowing you clarity of mind and a positive way forward.

Child Counselling

I have vast experience providing counselling for both children and young people, in a broad range of therapeutic settings, both residential and fostering. Outside of my private therapy, I also work with young people who are statemented with Autism. When working with children, not only do I offer a safe space to talk, I also provide a range of creative resources. In my experience, children benefit from having opportunities to work in a creative way, choosing from a range of materials such as clay, drawing or playing games. Children often find it more comfortable to express their thoughts and concerns when the focus is not directed at them but redirected onto an activity. I work to empower a child and encourage self-expression.

When carrying out child counselling, I believe that the building of an open and honest relationship between myself and the young person, provides an environment where they can be really honest, without a fear of being judged. It is important for children to feel properly heard and fully accepted to enable them to move forward.

I will work with you to help you make sense of any overwhelming problems you might have by breaking them down into smaller parts to bring about positive change.

Background

My career began as a tutor within Adult Education and the prison service where I taught literacy, numeracy and English language. It was here that I gained valuable experience teaching both young adults and mature students. I soon realised that her students often needed further support to overcome barriers which prevented them learning effectively such as – anger, low self-esteem, stress and/or a lack of confidence.  It was during that time that I became interested in CBT and that this type therapy could help students with their barriers to learning,

In addition to the above, I have also gained experience working on a voluntary basis with The ‘Silver Line’ charity – a befriending service helping people to combat loneliness. I have supported people of different ages and walks of life who found themselves lonely and isolated for a variety of reasons but particularly when they had a significant life change. I was also a ‘Silver Line’ trainer and have worked with new volunteers in order for them to become ‘Silver Line’ befrienders like myself

Sian Jones

Ashford Practice

CBT Therapy Ashford & Relationship Counselling Ashford

My name is Sian Jones and I’m a qualified Counsellor, Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (CBT) and Relationship Counsellor based at CBT and Counselling Ashford. I have extensive experience but specialise in CBT therapy Ashford where I practice Rational Emotive Behavioural Therapy (REBT) which falls under the cognitive behavioural therapy umbrella.

Research has shown time and time again, that the single most powerful factor in therapy is the strength of relationship between the client and the therapist. I like to think that my kind, empathetic, straightforward approach will help you develop an understanding of yourself and provide you with support to work on the problems you face.

How can I help?

My CBT therapy Ashford is carried out in a warm, confidential and supportive environment. I will help you explore your concerns and establish what might be stopping you moving forward. I will help you understand the relationship between beliefs, feelings and thoughts and the effect these may be having on your emotional well-being.

Together we will rationalise your situation and I will support you to be able to see the wood from the trees, enabling you clarity of mind by reducing any confusion. It’s not about forcing you to take a particular course of action, it’s about empowering you to have choice.

I believe that the building of a trusting relationship with is one of the most important factors in order for you to feel comfortable enough to confide your feelings and emotions. The feedback I have received time and time again is that people don’t want a counsellor to just sit there and nod, waiting for you to speak, so I always take an active part in the conversation and the process of recovery and change.

Experience

Outside of my therapeutic experience, my background is within the corporate world of ‘Coca-Cola Enterprises Ltd’ where I worked for many years in a variety of management roles. This might appear far removed from what I do now.

However, I firmly believe the training, structure and discipline I gained during this time has contributed greatly in my becoming a successful Counsellor. I also feel that my exposure in this type of environment has enabled me view of a ‘wider’ world and not just that of a therapy room.

I took the decision to change direction and pursue a career in counselling. Over a 10 year period, whilst working full time. I undertook a degree in Psychology in order to train to become a psychotherapist, counsellor and a CBT Therapist.
