Then together, we will find new coping strategies to help you deal with your problems more positively.

Beverley Simpkins

Sevenoaks & West Wickham Practice

Counselling and CBT Sevenoaks

My name is Beverley Simpkins and I’m fully qualified adult Counsellor and CBT therapist based at CBT Sevenoaks and West Wickham.

I hold a diploma in both ‘Integrative Psychotherapeutic Counselling’ and in ‘Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)’. I’m accredited by the NCS (National Counselling Society) and a registered member of the BACP (British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists).

Along with my work in private practice for over the last seven years, I also have experience working with the charity ‘Mind’.

How I can help

‘Integrative therapy’ means I don’t believe that one approach fits everybody. Instead I draw upon a wide range of elements from specific therapies, depending on your individual needs.  I will provide you the space to allow you to explore your concerns in a calm, supportive, confidential environment, at your pace.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) looks at how our thoughts, feelings and behaviours are all linked. Therefore, if we think negative or upsetting thoughts, we will then feel negative or upset. We are then likely to behave in a way that reinforces those thoughts and strengthens the feelings, which becomes a vicious cycle. I will help you break that cycle.

The relationship between you and I is key to your success. Therefore, it’s important that you feel comfortable enough to share your thoughts and feelings with me. And safe enough to talk about anything you choose, however painful that might be.

I do understand that counselling might feel quite daunting at first. Which is why I will do everything I can to help you feel relaxed. People I have seen in the past, have told me that my warm, down to earth approach makes them feel at ease straight away.

People seek counselling for variety of reasons and no problem is too big or too small. Perhaps you are lacking in confidence or have low self-esteem. Maybe you feel depressed or have relationship problems. I will work with to help you get to where you want to get to and feel more in control of your life.

Ethical Standards

I subscribe to and work within the NCS code of ethics and the BACP ethical framework. In addition, I undertake regular professional development and supervision. Alongside holding professional indemnity insurance.

If you would like to book an appointment to come and see me at CBT Sevenoaks or counselling West Wickham. Please contact me via CBT & Counselling Kent today. Request to see Beverley

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Canterbury & Whitstable

My name is Jonathan Winternheimer MSc and I’m a fully qualified Counsellor based at Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Canterbury and Whitstable. I’m also a qualified marriage, family, and child therapist (age 11).

I have extensive counselling experience and specialise in ‘Systemic’ based therapy. Which seeks to understand the individual in relationship with others, rather than in isolation.

I also practice ‘Acceptance and Commitment Therapy’ (ACT) which is considered the third wave of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. (ACT) is an action-oriented approach to psychotherapy that stems from traditional behaviour therapy. ‘Acceptance and Commitment Therapy’ invites you to open up to unpleasant feelings and learn not to overreact to them. It teaches you not to avoid situations where these feelings are evoked. And instead learn to accept them.

How I can help

At cognitive behavioural therapy Canterbury, I work to build and sustain a supportive and non-judgmental relationship with you. Therefore, you will feel accepted, valued and understood. This relationship provides the basis for exploring whatever difficulties you are experiencing.

Sometimes it can be difficult to talk to friends and family. We often fear rejection or judgement. Or we may feel we are protecting them by not sharing our innermost feelings. My aim is to support you in exploring whatever issues you choose to talk about.

I will provide you with an environment that will encourage self-discovery and remind you of your unique inner-resilience and inspire you to bring about positive change.

Experience

I have 10 years’ experience having previously worked in substance misuse and local and national counselling services.

Jo-Walmsley Moore

Sittingbourne Practice

Counselling & CBT Sittingbourne (Adults and Children)

My name is Jo Walmsley-Moore and I’m a fully qualified ‘Integrative Counsellor’ and Clinical Supervisor based at CBT Sittingbourne. I am registered member of the BACP (British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists). Alongside holding professional accreditation with NCS (National Counselling Society). I provide CBT and counselling for both adults and children age 7+ years.

Being an integrative counsellor is at the heart of my work. This means, once the relationship is in place I draw upon a range of different “tools” from specific therapies. Depending on your individual needs.  I will tailor your therapy so it’s personal to your specific goal and personality. I don’t believe that one single approach can treat each person in all situations.

Experience

I have gained counselling experience in many different fields over the last decade. Alongside my own private practice I also worked within the NHS for 6 years. Providing short term counselling and CBT therapy on the IAPT (Improving Access to Psychological Therapies) service. At Step 2, Step 3 and Step 3a High Intensity levels.

In addition to this, my work with a domestic abuse agency, led me to develop a real passion for helping survivors of abuse reclaim their lives and take back control. I am also the sole counsellor providing treatment to children in the Swale area for ‘Mind’.

How I Can Help

At Counselling and CBT Sittingbourne, I aim to provide a safe, warm and confidential space for you to explore your difficulties. I understand that reaching out for help might feel quite daunting. However, I will strive to put you at ease and make your counselling experience as positive and effective as possible.

I have a down to earth, friendly approach and believe that someone completely neutral is a great help  investigating your needs are and what’s required in order to achieve them.

Just taking the time to talk things through can be eye-opening experience, because it’s very easy to get “stuck” inside our own head. Let’s face it, sometimes we are not our own best friend and our brains can be incredibly unkind to us. Therefore, we will start by getting any unhelpful thoughts in order, so you are able to think more rationally in order to achieve the life you want.

The person we grow up to become has been heavily influenced by our “care givers” and our early life experiences. Therefore, this sometimes means it has left us with thoughts processes and patterns of behaviour which are possibly unhealthy or unhelpful.

By helping you understand why you are the person you are it allows you to choose which “bits” you would like to keep and which you would like to change. This is where our work together begins. We will explore the skills or “tools” that will be most effective in helping you to move forward.

Counselling For Children

When working with children or young people, therapy is offered in a very different way. Depending on the age of your child, I aim to build a friendship with them at first and where relevant I use a playful approach to begin counselling. Prior to meeting with your child, I will request a short phone call with you to understand the background of your child’s difficulties.

Ethical Standards

I have an advanced DBS, indemnity insurance and abide by the code of ethics set out by the BACP and NCS. I’m in regular clinical supervision and ensure that learning is an ongoing process through training and continuing professional development.

Lorna Ashley

Sidcup Practice

Counselling Sidcup

My name is Lorna Ashley and I’m BACP registered Integrative Counsellor, based at CBT and Counselling Sidcup practice. Being an integrative counsellor means I draw upon different elements of specific therapies, which allow me to be flexible in the way I work in order to achieve the best outcome for you. I don’t believe there is a one size that fits all approach.

My counselling practice is the result of a lifelong journey of growth and interest in people, complementary therapy and health; both physically and mentally. My life has taken a few twists and turns but I have kept on the path to doing what I love and what I’m passionate about.  Working with non-invasive treatments on a holistic level enables me a deeper understanding of how to take care of ourselves.

At CBT and Counselling Sidcup I nurture well-being to promote a positive transition for change, fulfilment and self-awareness. My experience is varied. Throughout my life and career there have been many challenges and I’m often humbled at how I am constantly learning by what is shared working through many of life’s issues.

Experience

I have gained extensive experience through my clinical work with people from many different backgrounds, cultures and age groups. Alongside my private practice at CBT and Counselling Sidcup, I also work as a clinical volunteer for a bereavement charity. This has enabled me a good understanding of grief and loss and how unique the experience is for each us. Additionally, I offer support in a supervisory capacity to a charity that provides a space for those feeling suicidal.

Following the completion of pathology, anatomy and physiology exams I qualified as a Reflexologist alongside being trained in Reiki. I’m also qualified in personal training and nutrition and have continued evolving my interest in holistic well-being and counselling.

How I can support you

Life happens and it’s not always kind. The things we thought we had a handle on and believed we could cope with, can suddenly seem uncertain, confusing and overwhelming. The thoughts and feelings that arise can leave us feeling unable to make sense of it all.

At cognitive behavioural therapy Ashford I pride myself on offering a confidential, warm and supportive environment. I will help you explore your concerns and establish what might be stopping you moving forward. I consider myself sincere, practical and encouraging. My aim is to help you understand the relationship between beliefs, feelings and thoughts. Because these will be having an effect on your emotional well-being.

My Background

My career began as a tutor teaching literacy and numeracy within Adult Education and the prison service. It was here that I gained valuable experience teaching both young adults and mature students. I soon realised that students often needed further support to overcome barriers which prevented them learning effectively. Issues such as – anger, low self-esteem, stress and/or a lack of confidence.  It was during that time that I became interested in CBT and that this type therapy could help students with their barriers to learning,

I also have experience working on a voluntary basis with The ‘Silver Line’ charity – a befriending service helping people to combat loneliness. This means supporting people of different ages and walks of life who found themselves lonely and isolated for a variety of reasons.  Particularly when they had a significant life change. I’m also a ‘Silver Line’ trainer working with new volunteers to become ‘Silver Line’ befrienders like myself.

My aim is to build a trusting, non-judgemental therapeutic relationship between us, which should enable you to feel deeply understood and fully accepted for who you are.

I have gained a wealth of experience counselling across private, public and voluntary sectors.

Adult counselling Ashford

I consider myself to be warm, approachable and kind with an aim to provide a safe, confidential environment. In other words, when the quality of therapy is high quality you will feel much better placed to open up and talk through what is troubling you.

With my help you will achieve a better understanding of yourself. This understanding builds confidence, leading you to be more able to identify your own solutions to the problems you face. This feeling of empowerment will enable you to move past any problematic thoughts or feelings. This will result in you moving forward in a more positive way.

Child counselling Ashford

Alongside working with children in private practice, I also have experience counselling children in both residential and fostering settings and young people statemented with Autism.

Not only do I offer a safe space to talk, I also provide a range of creative resources depending on the needs of your child. In my experience, younger children benefit from having opportunities to work in a creative way. Therefore, I use a range of materials such as clay, drawing or games to encourage them to open up. Above all young people are more comfortable when the focus is directed away from them. I work to empower a child and encourage self-expression.

In conclusion, an open relationship between therapist and child provides an environment where they feel safe enough to be honest, without a fear of being judged. When your child feels properly heard and fully understood, they are able to move forward more positively. More about counselling for children

Sian Jones

Ashford Practice

Counselling & CBT Ashford

My name is Sian Jones BSc (hons) and I’m a fully qualified Counsellor and Cognitive Behavioural Therapist based at CBT Ashford. I am the founder of CBT and Counselling Kent and have extensive counselling experience, athough I now tend to specialise in CBT therapy and relationship counselling.    practice ‘Rational Emotive Behavioural Therapy’ (REBT) which falls under the cognitive behavioural therapy umbrella.

Research conistently that the single most powerful factor in therapy, is the strength of relationship between the client and therapist. I like to think that my kind, empathetic, straightforward approach will help you develop an understanding of yourself and support you to work through the problems you face.

How I can help

My therapy is carried out in a warm, confidential and supportive environment. I will help you explore your concerns and establish what might be stopping you moving forward. I will help you understand the relationship between your beliefs, feelings and thoughts. Because they will be having an effect on your emotional well-being.

Together we will rationalise your situation so you are able to see the wood from the trees. This will enable you clarity of mind and help reduce any confusion. It’s not about forcing you to take a particular course of action, it’s about empowering you to have choice.

The building of a trusting relationship with is one of the most important factors in order for you to feel comfortable enough to discuss your feelings. I regularly receive feedback people don’t want a counsellor to just sit there and nod, waiting for you to speak. Therefore, I always take an active part in the conversation and the process of recovery and change.

Experience

Outside of my therapeutic experience, my background is within the corporate world of ‘Coca-Cola Enterprises Ltd’ where I worked for many years in a variety of management roles. This might appear far removed from what I do now.

However, I firmly believe the training, structure and discipline I gained during this time has contributed greatly in my becoming a successful Counsellor. I also feel that my exposure in this type of environment has enabled me view of a ‘wider’ world and not just that of a therapy room.

I took the decision to change direction and pursue a career in counselling. Over a 10 year period, whilst working full time. I undertook a degree in Psychology in order to train to become a psychotherapist, counsellor and a CBT Therapist.

I have worked with adolescents within ‘Child Adolescent Mental Health Services’.  Alongside working with adults as a ‘Specialist Psychotherapist’ within the ‘NHS Adult Mental Health Service’. I have also provided therapy for children under the care of social services.

My extensive clinical experience has enabled me exposure to a broad spectrum of emotional and psychological difficulties. These include – problematic relationships, identity issues, loss, anxiety and depression for instance.  Alongside more complex enduring mental health conditions.

How I can help

At Counselling Herne Bay, my aim is to provide a warm, confidential and safe space in which we can explore your difficulties. This will help you gain insight into the origin of your distress. Therefore, by identifying repetitive patterns of relating we can increase the potential for personal change. Therapy can have a positive impact, not only in how we feel but also how we relate with each other. Considering how we communicate is an imperative part of the therapy process. Therapy aims to reduce the symptoms that might compromise everyday life.

When distressed, we may withdraw or communicate our needs through destructive behaviours, as opposed to through words or reaching out to others. Therefore, by exploring what these behaviours mean we are able to consider more helpful ways to communicate our needs.

Ethical Standards

I have an advanced DBS, indemnity insurance and abide by the code of ethics set out by the UKCP. I engage in regular clinical supervision and ensure that learning is an ongoing process through training and continuing professional development.
