My name is Charlene Douglas and I’m a fully qualified ‘Psychodynamic Counsellor’ based at CBT & Counselling Gravesend. I’m a member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy) and work with both adults and children age 11+ on a wide range of difficulties.
Psychodynamic counselling is a therapeutic approach that embraces the work of all analytic therapies. I also practice elements of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) in my work, where relevant, in order to help you move forward.
Over the last 15 years I have worked in numerous counselling related environments. Supporting young people and adults to work through their challenges. I understand life can be lonely at times and we might feel as though everyone else has lives that run smoothly. Anxiety, depression, stress and so on, can feel debilitating at times. I will work with you to help you get to where you want to be
My experience of child counselling has been achieved in secondary and higher education settings. I have worked with hundreds of young people who have experienced traumatic events related to abuse, sexual exploitation, anxiety or addiction etc.
The feedback I have received is that I’m someone they can ‘really talk to’. Someone who is ‘on their side’. I will work patiently with your child to help them find better ways of coping with any difficult situation they are experiencing. Then help them move forward more positively.
I understand that it might feel quite daunting making the first contact with a counsellor. However, rest assured, I will provide an environment where you can feel really safe to express exactly what you are experiencing – without the fear of being judged. I cover any emotional difficulty, with a particular focus on sex and relationships. Perhaps you are experiencing issues with sexual dysfunctions, a lack of sexual desire or confusion around sexual identity. Or maybe you finding it difficult to find or sustain a relationship.
Together, we will explore what you are really feeling and why then work on helping you find a way forward.
I subscribe to and work within the ethical frameworks of both the BACP and COSRT (College of sex and relationship therapies). Clinical supervision is undertaken on a monthly basis. Alongside regular participation in continued professional development (CPD).
I hold professional and public indemnity insurance.

My name is Sj Mason and I am based at CBT and Counselling Gravesend practice. I’m a fully qualified family therapist, providing counselling, psychotherapy and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) for both adults and children age 12+.
My experience at counselling Gravesend spans over 10 years. This has been in a variety of voluntary sector settings including foster care and disadvantaged young adults. I have one adult and two teenage sons so have personal experience with the difficulties that the different life stages can bring.
I am also trained to practice the ‘Rewind Technique’ which is used to help reverse the after effects of trauma or PTSD. It is common for behavioural symptoms in children to stem from a previous trauma. Rewind is a fast, non-intrusive technique for both adults and children and an effective tool for the treatment of all types of trauma and phobias.
As a qualified family therapist I am trained to look at the whole system. This means I will endeavour to work closely with the whole family if and when required. I work holistically rather than clinically, building a safe, secure environment for your child. Therefore, enhancing the therapeutic work we will do together.
My aim is to become more of a mentor, role model, friend etc for your child rather than a ‘therapist’. I do this in a fun creative way using games and crafts or by incorporating their likes/hobbies. Before I start work with you child I will arrange to have a telephone conversation with you in order to gain a background of the problems your child is experiencing.
My aim is to provide a warm, confidential and safe environment in which we can work together to explore your difficulties and help you make sense of things. I will help you gain insight and a better understanding of yourself and your issues, whilst providing you with the tools to enable you move forward more positively. The therapy I provide is not a specific mode, instead I will tailor my approach to suit your individual needs. I have a successful track record in helping people achieve the goals by providing confidential, non-judgemental support.
My work is within the BACP ethical framework and undertake regular professional development and supervision as well as having professional indemnity insurance.
I provide help and support for any type of problem such as anxiety, bereavement, depression, anger issues, relationship problems and stress.
